South east Asia trip part 5: Malaysia – Thailand border

It’s been a while since I wrote anything. I got a bit sick in Thailand so i didn’t feel like it, feeling a bit better now so here we go. The last day on Penang we had to register the bike on our name so we had to go to a office. Our garage asked a agent to bring us there and help us. We didn’t know the office was on the mainland so we had to go with the ferry. We followed them to the road office where we handed over the papers of the bike. There was a problem, there computer system was shut down they told us to come back pick up maybe 1-2 days later. We were unhappy with that but our agent told us to wait in front of the desk , sometimes it’s online again. After an hour it did we were so happy otherwise we had to stay…. So the bike was official our property pretty cool. The agent also filled in the other papers for us to sale the bike , we needed to get some stamps for this. I had to come in a little office where i met a man who was dressed official. He asked me so you wanna sale the bike I said yes but later first Holliday. Then he asked me so you work in Malaysia I said no we just here for holiday. I think he didn’t understand my story but I got the stamps anyway. That day we wanted to leave we were sick of Penang it doesn’t feel like an island it’s more like a big city. We had to send some stuff home because it was to heavy. So now we travel really light which is nice. We don’t need that much stuff here it’s most of the time hot. Our whole stay in Malaysia we were annoyed by the grey sky, people told us its from the palm oil they burn in Indonesia. We finally ride off, direction to Alor Setar. On the road , We were feeling much better when driving off. The landscape was getting greener and sky more blue.

Alor star tower

Alor star is a mix between Chinese temples and mosques. Alor Star is a beautiful city but dirty. We took around this city for a little while and also looking for information office for Thailand visa but everyone was telling us a different story. I always have the attitude to just go. Funny its In Penang we were been told to get a visa for 30 or 60 days otherwise we only have 2 weeks. For some reason we didn’t get it. Maybe we are to cheap or we didn’t trust people at all we don’t know!! We thought if we want to stay longer we can apply for this in Thailand. So not really care !! We just want to go to the border and see what happen!!

The border from Malaysia to Thailand

The border of Malaysia was easy, just a exit and stamp that’s it!!That time we were on the bike ! Thailand border is very relax too . We parked the bike at the side and walked to the immigration office. In the office we asked about the visa to stay longer in Thailand but They said to us can only get a 30 days or 60 days visa in Penang ….. Not on arrived or even in Thailand anywhere immigration office . We were so annoyed with ourselves. We were in Penang and even in the tourist office how stupid!! However We decided to go in to Thailand with 14 days visa . Our plan is go with the bike to Cambodia in 2 weeks. Even that is about over 2000km away !! Anyway we were so happy to be in Thailand . The people are more friendly, more like to gave people smile and like to talk to us. Feel much better to get on the road again!! good luck to us !!
