South east Asia trip part 1: Singapore

Singapore –a shopping paradise

We arrived in Singapore after a long 8 hours flight. This is the start of our long holiday ( 2 months). We booked our hostel in Chinatown. Chinatown is quite nice lots of shops and cheap food. We walked around a bit but decided to go back to the hostel we both were tired from the flight. Our hostel was quiet and the people were friendly. Next day we both felt better and went for a walk in Singapore. We went to the esplanade this is a beautiful sight of exotic buildings and beautiful views. We were so lucky that day was Independence Day rehearsal. Singapore had a parade of army tanks and fire fighters true the city. The people told us there will be fireworks and a show later on this day. So we decided to come back later and go to Santosa.

Santosa is a small island we went there by metro. When we arrived we saw that it is so commercial. Everything has an entrance price. There’s lots of parks like universal studio, aquarium and a place for people to fly in a wind tunnel. We didn’t go in was ridicules overpriced… We went to the beach and we had a great time.

We went back to the esplanade to watch the show it was really impressive jet fighters flying over really low. The sounds was so loud just amazing. After that lots of music and then the fireworks. Overall a great day. Next day we went to the border at woodlands here we bought a ticket for the train to Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur, lucky for us there were still tickets for a bed in the train. We were going at 23:00.

So we still had some time in Singapore we went to the market. Lilia was so funny to let me try durian fruit, this is a famous fruit from Southeast Asia. The durian really stinks I tried but did not like it…. At the market they had a show there were some lady’s performing. These women were from India/ Indonesia. We didn’t really understand what was going on. A man explained us that these women have one day off in a week to sing and dance. He also told us that it’s Ramadan now and all the people are fasting no drinking or eating. Drinking only in sertent times. We were impressed because the ladies were heavenly dressed and it’s so hot, we were drinking all the time. He said they get use to it and they don’t feel sick. We went back to china town to eat and collect our stuff from the hostel.

We went to the train for Kuala Lumpur. Customs was easy no problems. The train was nice hardly anyone in our compartment, nice and quiet. Had a good sleep on the train. Comfortable way to Malaysia.
