Bigriggen Park down to Rathdowny in scenic rim. The lady we spoke to her name is” Toni”, She was so friendly and inviting. We always wanted to see if we like to run a caravan park in the future so we get excited of this park. She invited us to the park and stay for couple of days to see if we liked the park or not. It was a long way for us about 1200+km and 14 hour drive straight from Bowen. We told her that we could be there in 3 days, she was very nice and says don’t worry and no rush just take easy and safe drive. She was very kind and we both had good feeling about this park and owner.
On the way down, we popped in to the sunshine coast – Pelican Water where our very dear friends Greg and Trish live. We stayed with them for one night they are always so welcome us and made us feel like home, Great friends. Also was them the first time seen our caravan and they loved it. They spoiled us again with lovely food and veggies from them garden.Next day, we said goodbye to Greg and Trish and went on our way to Bigriggen Park.
We both a bit nervous about not knowing who we will meet. Before we arrived, the owner texted us that she won`t be in the park meeting us the day we arrived but 2 days later, so she had organized someone to show us around.
We thought we would be going to a small caravan park not a massive property. But when we drove into the property, we passed a big camping ground and we both looked at each other said: what a park we are going to work!!? It was a long way drive to the office.
We met the other caretakers Richard and Shirley. They showed us where we could park our van. Caretaker site is close to the office only 10m walk , this is the closest we ever been to work. I’m not complaining with the Diesel price at its peak ($2.00+ per Liter) at the moment We are very happy to stay and work in a place but driving.
Bigriggen Park

Bigriggen is a massive Park, it’s about 60 acres and had 60+ powered sites. The park is a bush camping ground feels like a National park, lots of wild life such as birds, kangaroos, wallabies, possums, and bandicoots.

Here also have a beautiful creek that you can tube all the way along.

3 days after, we met Park owners Trent and Toni, Toni was the lady we spoke to. She was lovely and she invited us into the office offering us really nice coffee and made us comfortable. They are young about our age and run this massive caravan park quite impressive. To be honest we didn’t expect to meet people like them so young and manager a such big camping ground. They pretty much wanted us to start straight away which was great, after 2 months of not working but holidays we were ready for some work again.
The next day we started work straight away, most of the work is really straight forward. The owners have this place organized so efficient, they made booking system so easy and everyone books online. This park gets lots of people from Brisbane and Gold coast, So during the week it’s quiet but then on Friday this park starts to fill up. Office is open till 8:00pm on Friday because people from the city all want to come after work. It could easy be more than 300 people checked in a day. Its setup for big groups and family, no-powered camping you can camp pretty much anywhere, so people could join caravans or tents together and enjoy each other company.
The other caretakers, Richard and Shirley are lovely people. They have been on the road for 8 years, This is what we are starting to do now. They have lots of experience of running a caravan park, they like work here and we can see why. Great boss and awesome camping ground with beautiful area + good coffee in the office , what a great start for our journey and experience.
At work, we get to drive a tractor, fork lift truck and electric buggies.

We make ice bags, wood bags and clean toilets and lots of mowing. Then we make coffees on one of those fancy Italian machines and serve ice creams and checking-in for people also helping guests if need. We are all-rounders do bit of everything. We love this job and place so much but the only thing we have to get used to is working till 8pm on Friday night but for the rest dream job.
Since recent we cleaned up the swimming hole from weeds and started planting little grass seedlings.

We have a great time with the owners here. Lilia even calls Toni – sister, they have lots in common. Lilia is made for this job it comes so easy to her and the costumers enjoy her company so much. It’s going to be hard to leave this job. Trent and Toni were telling us that we are not allowed to leave till we died (that was joking) but we know we love each other’s company so much.

Bigriggen story will be continue…….

Hi Lilia & Ruben,
It’s so lovely to have you both so happy with your job. Thanks for such an interesting story about your work, and the park. It certainly will be hard to leave, so just enjoy for as long as you want. We miss you guys.
