Visited Our best friends Jen and Arnie from Australia. They moved back to Austria in 2020 so we decided to visit them in Reith bei Kitzbühel ,Austria while we are in Europe.
We traveled from Netherlands to Austria by Train. This is a night train( Nightjet) which is departure at 8pm in Netherlands arrive at 9am in Austria, the train has cabins with beds and seating carriage. We booked sleeper cabin with 6 people bunk beds in a small cabin.

The train departure from Ruben`s home city Groningen to Utrecht than catch Nightjet. We thought they would have sometime for use to get organized. But when the train arrived we had to jumped on quickly at that moment we almost lost each other. That was a little bit of panic but we got together and 10 seconds later train just moved . We had some lovely people in our cabin but we were very “unlucky” that we had a dutch party next door( Dutch love wild party when they out of country). Not so happy in night train but lucky the party stopped around 12:00am so we still got 6 hours sleep. In the morning we had a little breakfast service which was nice. Nothing luxury on train but apart from the party the journey was quit good for this price, it only cost 170 euro for 2 people one way.

Arriving in Austria Woergl train station, first impression was “white” everywhere, we didn`t have much time wondering around because we have to catch the other train to get to Kirchberg in Tiro. When we arrived, our friends were on the platform waiting for us ,It was so nice to see them when we got off the train……moist eyes….

Reith bei Kitzbühel, Jen`s home town

They drove us to them New home, they just got this apartment last year. they both know how to design home well, It was warm and very welcoming beautiful apartment.

Reith is a lovely and beautiful little town close to Mt, Kaiser. The village surround by mountains ,rivers and lakes. Jen showed us around the village and took us to Lake Schwarzsee, locals call it Black lake. We walked around the lake with snow falling down from the sky was so beautiful at that moment . The views and landscape was amazing.

Snow……..

We were so lucky in Austria the first day we arrive it started snowing and it didn’t stop for 2 days. It was beautiful everywhere just white also this was Lilia’s first time see the snow, it was amazing she just like a little kid keep screaming …..”its snowing” and eating the snow. We made a snow man and had our first snow fight also we made a snow angel laying down in the snow( bucket list tick)

Christmas Market

We visited Christmas Market in Kitzbühel and Advent Market in St. Johann in Tirol. Austria market is very different to the other country, the temperature was very cold only -2 degree and the fire were everywhere in the Market , also very clean and no plastic waste at all. You can make your own bread on wooden stick and plenty of hot punch to warm people up, when buying a Gluhwine(mulled wine) or punch they gave you a mug”, which was the price including a mug, just depend on keep the mug or return for 3 Euro. Kitzbühel and St. Johann in Tirol both were very beautiful towns the whole scenery looked like a fairytale .

Skiing and Ice skating

Kitzbühel , the best ski area in the world and here we are , we visited the best place in Austria !!

Jen took us up on the ski lift to visited ski area. It was not cheap but because of Jen we got a special discount (thanks Jen). We had a day pass so we could go up and down to visited all of mountains. The best one was on the top of mountain with a amazing views of the alps. When we standing there was like being on top of the world. The depth with everything “white” just very different and so beautiful. There have so many huts on every mountain with coffee and restaurants. One of the restaurant on the top of the mountain had a turning floor with a 360 degree views, it was stunning. We had lunch there and the best part was the view in the Toilet woo hoo….

We have never ski before that’s why we did not try it at ski park, Jen took us to Ski School in Reith learn how to ski. Jen was a ski instructor teaching people ski so we had great teacher showed us how to do it properly and play safe. Ruben learned so quickly, he said the motion felt a bit like ice skating, so he went so easy just like a natural skier. Lilia just remember “Pizza”…… which is keep ski board (front) triangle like a Pizza to slow down or stop. This was a new experience for the both of us, we went so well, just keep went up and down for few times that was so much fun.

The other day we went ice skating which was fun too. Lilia did ice skating before in the Netherlands ,she did really well especially Jen right next to her and showed her how to it well, we all had fun on the ice skate ground.

Wildpark Aurach

This park has a lots of animals such as alpacas, pony, lamas, donkeys, goats and deer……. its like an outdoor zoo ,animals ware everywhere, also you can pet and feed some of animals. But we came here not just for animals is about the views, the view of mountains and alps were sensational.

Fun time

Came to visited Austria also need to experience the locals. Jen took us to her brother`s shop kegelbahn( Bowling Alley). we had drank, watched football (world cup 2022) and played bowling ,we had so much fun on this game.

The other day Jen`s mum invited us to her place for afternoon tea, Mum`s house was very beautiful Austrian style with open view to Mt. Kaiser. Mum made a very big cake plus a table full of cheese, chocolate ,cookies , hams and hot pouch, feels like you walked into a high tea special shop. BTW everything was so yummy, thanks mum.

Of course, we have to visit the most popular shop in Reith- Kaiser snack!!

Something Fun

Went to a coffee shop at Ice skating park. we both love these pictures. we just laugh……

The scenery in Austria was amazing massive mountains and alps, the view that us feel like we were in the movie studio just so unreal. 8 days in Austria was the coldest week since winter begin, arrived from -2 went down to -13 it was so cold but we survived.

Jen cooked Austrian food for us , drove us everywhere and showed us around the area with stunning scenery. We had bloody good time in Austria !! Thanks Jen and Arnie.
