The Lamington National Park lying on the Lamington Plateau of the McPherson Range on the QLD and NSW border, part of the Scenic Rim. This park has 2 sections, Binna Burra and Green Mountains. This time we visited Binna Burra section.

Binna Burra has a lots of walking tracks, and it all start at Binna Burra sky Lodge which is a resort on top of a high mountain. The original resort was burned down but they have been rebuilding. They also have camp ground ,which we were planning to do but we didn’t get too excited about the camping site. It was in the forest, very small site and dark! When we arrived it was cold and raining and we are planing to do a few walking tracks and a bit of comfort would be great so we asked for some difference options. They introduce us Safari Tents. Which is Glamping only bed inside, you need to have your own sheets and sleeping bag.

We were lucky it was on special, also they had the most amazing view ……so we stayed there for 3 nights.

Day 1, the weather was not on our side, it continued to rain since we arrived here, so we did the cave circuit track , was sort of “short track” in this section. From Lodge you followed Binna Burra road walk down to Binna Burra lower day-use area then into the track. Caves circuit is 7km loop, this hike was amazing, Even walking on the road the view was impressive.

It`s so steep down and the amount of work they did just amazing. All the rock walls are protected with mesh, this is to prevent land slides.

When entered the caves track and you go down a stairs, followed the track we stopped at a seat and look down to Coomera Valley and the Darlington Range and cliff line , the views was beautiful.

The track itself surround by rain forest with all different types of fungus and Strangler fig tree.

Through a little tunnel we arrived at Kweebani Cave, the rock wall had beautiful colors and steps. We got a few breaks in the weather where it was not raining we got lucky with that.

Next day, it didn’t stop raining and we really wanted to go hiking. As soon as we had a break in the weather, we went for it. This time we were aiming for a waterfall , Coomera Falls. Coomera circuit is around 17km hiking. It was so wet, we met some people on the way they returned and didn’t finish the walk. That made us question if we should do it but we went ahead. The rain gave the Forrest a different feeling more dramatic and more beautiful.

Walking in the rain was not easy but the rain also created all these creeks and little waterfalls.

In one of the creeks we saw a Lamington Blue spiny crayfish. these guys are pretty rare but we saw 2 !!

When we arrived at the Coomera falls lookout, here you can see 3 waterfalls come together into Coomera Gorge just amazing, and it was flowing hard after heavy rain.

We loved to come back here, because there is a trial that goes down to the waterfall. But the weather conditions was just too slippery and we were already happy to make it to the lookout. We didn’t go any further because the wet weather so we followed the same track back around 9km. It took us about 4.5 hours to return. We enjoyed this place so much definitely recommended.
