Scenic Rim Part 2: Main Range National Park

From Girraween NP ,we didn`t want to cross the border to NSW so we followed  HWY 15 through Stanthorpe and before Warwick,  turned off to Killamey than follow road 21 to Main Range NP.

Main range NP has 3 sections, This time we decided not to stay in the National Park but somewhere between 3 sections so we can visit all of them.

On road 21, The Fall Drive. There`s some Beautiful spots to stop.  We visited Browns Falls

Daggs Falls lookout and Queen Mary Fall.

Also stopped at Carr`s Lookout, The scenic rim views. What a beautiful drive!

Follow the map; we went to Boonah information center to get some accommodations idea. We end up stayed at Lake Moogerah Caravan Park for 3 nights. The Lake was not much water at that moment but with views of  Main Range it was so beautiful , also this place was close to Main Range NP 3 sections. We arrived there late so we just set up the tent and relax for rest of the day and enjoying the lake view.

Main Range NP

Goomburra Section

Woke up in the early morning, it took 1.5 hrs drive to get there. The road was not too hard until we met the camping area. Soon we turned off to the lookout road, YES!! You need 4WD, creek crossing straight away!! Some of the section was not too bad but some steep part was not easy if wet. We drove All the way to the end of the road.

Frist hike is Mount Castle Lookout. It`s only 960m return,a very easy walk. The track itself surrounded by the rain-forest with Hoop pines and fig trees. At the lookout, you look over Mount Castle and Laidley valley, it just stunning.

2nd hike, we went  Sylvesters Lookout. It`s 940m return, was a easy walk also surrounded by rain forest, but amazing part was birds song!! The sound was super loud that you almost feel like walking inside the bird cage. catbirds, whip-bird, noisy miner……especially The Lyre Bird, sounds like crying baby. We both agree this track was the most amazing trail, Love it !!

Lots of birds songs check it out really relaxing.

3rd hike ,was Araucaria Falls. It`s 3.6km return. Some part of the trail was not easy a bit up and down. We stopped at the half way jumped into the creek for cool down. Than we set  down at the edge of  the stream  was  quite scary but beautiful .

Cunninghams Gap and Spicers Gap Sections

after than we stopped at  Cunningham Gap did a short walk, Fassifern Valley Lookout,1.6km return. The lookout  and track itself was over grown  not much to see but it was easy walk.

We didn`t do any of the long walk in this section, Main Range NP just too much to see so we decided to leave some of walking tracks for next time.

After, we went to Spicers Gap for some short walks. The road to Spicers Gap was not easy, very steep and rough, 4WD only!!

Governors Chair Lookout ,300m return

Moss`s well 120m, return

2nd day, We took a day off just rest at the Lake, Ruben went for a paddle and Lilia just sleeping the whole day …….

the night sky was full of the stars

We stayed at the Lake for 3 night. Before headed off, we visited Mount French in Moogerah Peaks NP.

We didn’t have to hike all the way to the top “lucky”!! Drove all the way to the top, did North Cliff track (720m return) and we had beautiful views, Logan’s lookout. The views over the Fassifern Valley with the Main Range. You could look down and see climbers climbing the rock face. After that we did the other little track, Mee-bor-rum circuit(840m loop) around the park then got back to the car heading to next destination.

Next , we are going to Binna Burra, Lemington National park.……….
